WHITE TEA

White tea is picked and harvested before the leaves open, the buds are picked when they are still covered in fine white hairs which is where the name has derived.  It undergoes very little processing and no fermentation and is extremely high in antioxidants.

Buddha’s Eyes
A hand rolled white tea from Anhul Province. A very special tea “morning picked” to prevent bruising, for two months in spring. Light delicate flavour high in antioxidants.  Leaves will slowly unfurl during infusion offering an aromatic and visual sensation.  Low in caffeine and contains more active cancer fighting antioxidants.

Buddha’s Tears Vanilla
A sensational hand rolled green tea. Produces clean brisk liquor with a smooth taste, and the fragrant aroma of vanilla. Low in caffeine and contains more active cancer fighting antioxidants.

Buddha’s Tears Jasmine
A hand rolled green tea. Produces clean brisk liquor with the fragrant aroma of jasmine.  Low in caffeine and contains more active cancer fighting antioxidants.

Pai Mu Tan
A very special tea produced on a limited scale in Fujian Province. Extremely pale infusion, with a fresh clean aroma.   Pai Mu Tan is renowned for properties that help prevent sagging of skin and has now captured the attention of the skin care market.


GREEN TEA

Green tea is tea that is dried not fermented like regular black tea.  Green tea is processed for a shorter time giving it a lighter flavour and hence keeping the medicinal and beneficial chemicals intact.

Gunpowder
Gains its name from the appearance of the leaves, which are rolled tightly into pellets. The tight roll ensures a longer shelf life. This popular green tea has a robust fragrance, with a pungent flavour.

Japanese Quince
The distinct and sweet flavour of quince superbly balanced with a delicate style sencha.  This green tea has delicate citrus flavour with the renowned medicinal benefits of a green tea.

Sencha
A Japanese green tea, referred to as “guest tea” because of its high quality. The needle-like leaves are lightly steamed and dried immediately to seal in freshness and produce a clean delicate flavour.


HERBAL

Chamomile
Chamomile flowers infuse to produce a golden brew with a light apple like taste. Soothing and naturally caffeine free the Ancient Egyptians believed that it slowed down the aging process.

Peppermint
Unmistakably refreshing and aromatic. The Chinese drink mint teas to cool off. Also believed to aid with digestion and nausea and used for calming purposes.

Lemon Grass
A delicious and mild lemony flavour with refreshing and soothing properties. Mixed well with ginger or mints and can be thirst quenching on a hot day.

Rooibos
From South Africa. Also known as “red bush tea”. Similar look and taste of black tea but caffeine free. Rich in proteins, minerals, and vitamin C.

Rosehip
Rosehips are noted for their high concentrations of vitamins A,E,K,P and especially C. Has a pleasant fruity aromatic taste. Can bruise hips in a mortar and pestle to aid infusion.

Tropical Fruit Sunset
An irresistible fruit and spice melange. Very refreshing served over ice. Contains Hibiscus flowers, papaya cubes, orange peels, apple pieces, cinnamon pieces, safflowers, Corinth, sultanas and currants. This tea is great hot and iced.


ORIGIN

Assam
From the “Thanai” district of Assam in north-eastern India. Deep red coloured infusion, a distinct full-bodied malt taste. A real treat at breakfast. Takes milk well.

Ceylon B.O.P
From the popular Kenilworth Highland Estate. Offers outstanding quality with a fast infusing, full aroma and slightly sweet flavour

Ceylon Organic
This sweet organic black tea is grown free from pesticides, chemicals and fertilizers, ensuring the purest of Ceylon tea.

Ceylon Wiry
A thin well processed wiry leaf, rich in flavour, light bodied, slightly sweet.

Oolong
A semi fermented whole leaf tea, naturally low in caffeine. Produces a pale yellow liquor and is a relaxing alternative to black tea as it is better described as being half way between a green and a black tea

Darjeeling
Darjeeling’s are the most celebrated of all Indian teas. Grown in the foothills of the Himalayas at elevations of 600 to 2100 metres, allowing the tea plants to develop slowly creating leaves of unrivalled flavour, intensity and full-body. 

Darjeeling 1st Flush
This 1st flush Castleton FTGFOP-1 tea is very special in that it is made from the first flush (new growth) of leaves following winter.  Grown at the foothills of Darjeeling, Its young fresh flavour is decidedly different from other Darjeeling’s. 

Keemun
Most famous of the North China Congous. Its mild sweet flavour makes it a perfect evening tea. The brilliant red liquor makes it ideal as a blend base.

Lapsang Souchong
Fujian Province. Thick, smooth red liquor with a powerful smoky scent that is unmistakable. The leaves are purposely smoked over bamboo during the drying process.  This tea is exceptionally good for digestion.

Yunnan Classic
South China Congou. Bright, full-bodied cup with a strong rich taste. The fine golden liquor and lingering taste will tolerate milk.

Chai Latte
Masala Chai is an Indian spiced tea.  The word Masala derives from and Indian word meaning ‘any spice blend’ and the word Chai means ‘tea’ in many languages.  The Merchant brews its own special chai to steam with milk.  The aromatic spices that Chai possesses have specific medicinal benefits.  Cardamon is known for its digestive properties, Arabs believed that it was an aphrodisiac; Indians used it as an effective way to combat obesity. Cinnamon is used as anti clotting agent for blood and also helps people with type 2 diabetes to normalise blood sugar levels.  Chai Latte is quickly becoming the new beverage enjoyed all over the world.

The Perfect Cup
